The rise of live streaming

Streaming platforms offer new ways to enjoy content that outdo traditional media. New social media focus on high-quality live video that encourages real-time interaction, and add new personalisation and monetisation options.

Filling the gaps left by Instagram and Facebook Live, alternatives such as Twitch are gaining ground; far from staying a common space for streaming video games, it is making the leap to other sectors such as the music industry, education, health, wellbeing, art, travel and even politics.

With widespread lockdowns as a result of the pandemic, brands have seen the opportunity to promote their latest products and services at live virtual events. It is a format that brings them closer to a young audience, where public figures seem more accessible to their followers, sharing their tastes, preferences and common hobbies.

Streaming networks act as self-feeding content machines with the power to win over different market niches, challenging traditional media and opening a new path for entertainment.
