Youth, indebted to the crisis

Continued uncertainty and the arrival of a new crisis — social, political and economic — are hitting young people's feelings. The unstable context translates directly into a lack of goals for this segment of the population, which sees its dreams cut short.

If facing the challenges ahead is already hard from an adult position, the situation is even harder for new, listless generations who put off decisions about their future because it is so unclear.

A situation that leads to early life crises; reflections on “what now?” come earlier and earlier. Professionals point to the quarter-life crisis, which arrives at 25, reinforcing that viral mantra: “We're too young to be this sad”.

There is no job stability, nor financial stability. Not even emotional stability. Young people do not know what or where to hold on to. Fear of failure spreads, and they are flooded by the feeling of never getting anywhere and of always being in a rush.

This means a rise in the number of young people with anxiety or depression who have needed to see professionals. Data on mental disorders and suicidal thoughts are also alarming.

But in the face of the avalanche of bad news in the present, thinking clearly about the future is hard. For young people too: one in three think the situation will get worse and 40% believe it will stay the same, according to FAD data.

Without doubt, uncertainty about the future afflicts a generation already familiar with crises.
