The new body cult

Since the arrival of the pandemic, and with the appearance of new diseases, people have recognised the importance of including products in their diet that, beyond their taste, stimulate the immune system.

Successive waves of COVID and the possible mutation of new strains bring the need to fight viruses and bacteria constantly, adding everyday foods that strengthen our defences. Debates such as the origin of raw materials and the variety and restriction of certain products are at the heart of how we eat.

If a profile that avoided excess and harmful products and opted for light, low-fat and skimmed food was already common, it is now becoming more conscious.

A new body cult is emerging, no longer based only on exercise and the idea of a sculpted physique.

The concept is evolving towards its most biological sense, giving rise to consumers who are more concerned about how what they eat will affect their health in the medium and long term. Awareness of caring for the body, outside and in, is at its peak.

With superfoods democratised, products and supplements that act almost like natural antibiotics are becoming popular and filling the shelves of every supermarket.

However, alongside the trend, inflation and the shortage of certain raw materials make access to fresh produce harder, and even more so to products that are not, in principle, considered basics.

A situation that will lead us to reflect on which essential foods should be in every citizen's shopping basket to guarantee access to a healthy diet.

A better diet is not only about food. Technology plays a decisive role in guiding people towards their goals.
