Collective punishment and international impunity
For months, Gaza has become a territory where daily life goes on under a siege as relentless as it is calculated. The images of hospitals reduced to rubble, whole neighbourhoods razed and families searching for water among the ruins are not isolated episodes, but part of a pattern repeated day after day. It is not only the brutality of the bombing, but a strategy that undermines, piece by piece, any possibility of survival with dignity. In this scenario, the destruction of basic infrastructure and the deliberate restriction of essential resources do not look like mistakes of war, but premeditated decisions.
Israel has imposed a systematic effort to weaken the population: cutting off water and electricity, blocking fuel and medicine, razing treatment and desalination plants, and blocking food until famine is reached.
The result is a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in full view, while the international community largely limits itself to lukewarm statements without real consequences.
Collective punishment, prohibited by international law, has been normalised under the discourse of security and self-defence. But behind those words, what persists is the deliberate devastation of a territory and its people. Even critical voices within Israel have warned that this path leads to a dead end, not only moral but also political. Yet the warnings fall on deaf ears, and silence, both external and internal, becomes the best ally of a strategy that, under the rhetoric of war, erodes the very possibility of life in Gaza.
