What is cannibalization?

Brand policy error, incurred when two business units at the same company compete for the same positioning, to satisfy the needs of a similar target audience. The parallel commercialisation of both brands may have negative repercussions, to the extent that they become mutually incompatible; although there are also companies that opt for a policy of controlled cannibalization, in an attempt to monopolise their category.
