What is whitepaper?

This is an informative document created and published by a business or organization in order to promote the characteristics of a solution, product, service, or technology. Its aim is to assist users, who are normally specialists in the subject, to understand an issue or resolve a problem, and indirectly, to influence their purchasing decision.

White papers serve to demonstrate that a business knows its customers and their challenges, in order to emphasize the advantages and benefits of the solution that is being promoted. They are most common in the B2B market, where sales pitches are more technical and less emotional. They have their origin in the world of politics, where governments tend to publish white papers to inform the legislators and public opinion of future changes to regulations.
