What is a fly?

A small advert that is displayed without prior notice over the rest of the content in the user's browser window. Unlike a layer, it maintains a fixed position in the active window, corresponding to specific screen coordinates, such that the use of the scroll bar does not cause it to cease being displayed.

In advertising jargon, the logo of the television channel that remains visible during the transmission of the program and disappears during advertising is also called a fly.
