What is a splog?

Blogs created for the sole purpose of hosting advertising, replete with links to other sites for the purpose of improving their positioning amongst search engines.

This type of page can optimise its performance by publishing filler text especially designed to satisfy Adsense or other advertising service criteria, or can automatically feed from external content, usurping entries from other blogs, and randomly inserting it between advertising for the purpose of passing off as a legitimate blog. In any event, they contaminate search engine results, slowing down user queries.

Acronym or abbreviation:
Splog: Spam Blog
