What is anchor text?

The visible part of a hyperlink; the text, generally underlined, which is clicked and which describes the link content. Normally adopts the same name as the company or page it is linked to, although it is recommended to be creative in applying a definition. Anchor text suitability is an important positioning decision, given that search engines take it into account when determining the relevance of a linked website and may remain associated with the title used, and even included amongst the search results.
