What is a keylogger?

A hardware or software application that records a user's keystrokes when they enter information via their keyboard, which it saves. A fraudulent practice that is generally conducted during checkout processes to extract confidential information such as passwords or account numbers. On occasion, the lists of information gathered are published on the Internet making them accessible to other users, who may take advantage of them.
