What is a wiki?

Website that is unique in that its pages are written and edited by the users, who create, amend, correct, or delete content directly in their browser.

The name is of Hawaiian origin, where the word wiki means ‘fast’, and it refers to the ease with which information can be added. The use of wikis has expanded as a tool for building up repositories of knowledge, given that the contribution of multiple users means that the page is more complete and gives rise to a community of users who share content on the same subject. The best-know example of a wiki is Wikipedia, an encyclopaedia that has been created collectively.
