What is the cache?

Hardware or software component that stores data so that future requests for the same data can be processed more quickly. For example, browsers have a cache memory which stores the last pages visited by the internet user, so that if any of these pages are requested again, the browser can show the one that it has stored rather than finding it again on the internet.
