What is a startup?

A company in its early days which, given its characteristics, is considered to have huge growth potential and which, as a general rule, is backed by an innovative idea which stands out in the market. Another feature of start-ups is that they often don’t have a proven business model, although their aspiration is that this should be scalable, i.e. that it should be able to generate revenue much more quickly than the rate at which its costs structure escalates. Although the term start-up can be applied to companies in any sector or activity, it is normally applied to those with a notable technological component and which are related to the online world.
