What is jpeg?

The most widespread photo file format in the digital world. The term was coined by the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG), a team of specialists that created this standard for the compression and encryption of images. The algorithm designed by this same group to compress images with a depth of 24 bits or in greyscale also goes by the name of jpeg. It is sometimes known as jpg, given that older operating systems limited the length of file extensions to three characters.
