What is a collaborative economy?

New business model that consists of the exchange of goods or services between private individuals through digital platforms. In recent years, this method has become popular thanks to social media and specific P2P platforms that allow defined products or services to be shared, sold, hired, donated, or provided.

In addition, these platforms tend to include mechanisms for providing users with ratings and references, thereby minimizing any possible concerns that this system may generate. At a worldwide scale, collaborative-economy businesses such as Uber, Airbnb, or BlaBaCar have brought disruptive upheaval to sectors as traditional as public transport and hotels.
