What is HTML or HyperText Markup Language?

Acronym meaning HyperText Markup Language which refers to the programming language used to create web pages. HTML language is written in the form of tags enclosed within angle brackets (<,>,/) which are read by the browser and interpreted on-screen.

It is the standard language under the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) which has prevailed in the viewing of websites and it has been adopted by all current browsers. The latest version is HTML5.
