What is graphical user interface?

A graphical user interface or GUI is a type of user interface that uses images, icons, and menus to display what actions are available out of those that users can select on a device. The aim is to provide a friendly visual environment that is simple to use in order to facilitate communication between users and the computer.

The Windows or Mac OS desktop environments are popular examples of GUI, using graphic elements, which are now standard on most computers, to replace communication by way of text commands and binary code.
