What is viral marketing?

It is a communication strategy that leverages the accessibility of Internet content and its ease of distribution, whereby recipients forward advertising messages between them via email, social networking sites or SMS. An online equivalent of “word of mouth”, where advertising is propagated by itself and the audience increases exponentially without need for high levels of investment.

Sometimes employs covert advertising, that disguises the message behind websites of dubious origin, amateur videos, funny or compelling content... the ultimate aim of which is to have a media impact.
